Product Testing: Aveda Invati

To hear about more things I LUUUUURVE, follow me on Instagram!

I've waited almost three weeks to write this post- I had to make sure I gave the product enough time to live or not live up to its claims. The product in question is the Invati system by Aveda. The claim? To help reduce hair fall and to promote healthy hair growth using all natural ingredients. Now, I've been trying to grow my hair out since 2009, and while it has grown in length, it has lost a LOT of its volume. This seemed like the perfect product to help restore volume, and so I decided to try it out.

First off, I was advised that I need to use the whole system- the shampoo, conditioner AND scalp revitalizer, and the scalp revitalizer needs to be used twice a day.

The downside is the whole system together will cost you $108+ tax. I decided to bite the bullet in the name of science (and a good blog story).  So after three weeks of testing, here are my thoughts:

1. Smell: the whole system smells a little like an earthy eucalyptus. N did compliment me multiple times on how good my hair smelled. The bonus of the scalp revitalizer is that it does help mask food/smoke smells that may get in your hair.

2. Texture: You spray the scalp revitalizer straight onto your scalp, and it does leave a cool, tingly sensation. The shampoo is very liquid- its not like any shampoo I've tried before, so you have to be careful that you don't spill it everywhere. The conditioner is less thick that most others I've used, and doesn't leave your hair quite as slippery and slick as normal conditioner. That said, you have to be a little careful with tangles. Towel-dry GENTLY!

3. The claim: The most important part- does it live up to its claims? And I'm happy to say- YES!! My hair fall is much less, and my hair is definitely feeling a lot more full that in has in a long time. It does take about two weeks to really see results though, so don't get discouraged too soon.

Was it worth the $100+ price tag? I would say most definitely yes!! In addition to the fact that it works, its natural and isn't tested on animals!!

Have you tried this product or are you curious to try it?

I haven't tried it yet but I plan on it!

All Aveda shampoos and conditioners are like that, I have found that I have to use much less product than with other brands which is nice!

The thing that made me put off my purchase is that the shampoo bottle is smaller than the others sold at Aveda though for the same price. Apparently this is because you have to use even less product than in the other lines so I suppose that is alright with me :)

Do you still like them?

Thanks for this review! I just purchased this set and I'm hoping it works for me as well.

Kathy asks...I just bought Invati package and I'm wondering if I should shampoo and condition daily to be most effective. I know I need to use the revitalizer 2 x's a day but wondering about the other. Any one know?

Kathy- I don't. I only wash my hair 2-3x per week. I don't think it matters. PS still using it and my hair is longer than its ever been and much thicker. I have flyaways from all the baby hairs coming in. Good problems to have as far as I'm concerned : )

Just replied in the comments- hope you have as much success w the product as I have!

Question! Do you use the spray 2x/day? Do you feel like it makes your hair oily at all? I don't wash daily, and just want to make sure it will still work for me!

Just bought the system. I have been using rogaine for years. Always new hair growth but I am still losing what seems like a lot of hair. Am wondering out loud if I should continue with the romaine. Thoughts?

I work out 3-4 times a week and do not always wash my hair after work out. I let it dry naturally. I've heard that most of the oil treatments and hair masks work best on clean scalp. Does it mean that I have to wash my hair every time before using this revitalizer?

i need this so badly after mrsa. when it spread through my blood and lymphatic system i lost most of my hair. not hot when you're 29. all seriousness anything over $3 for the next few years will be a huge splurge. ill stick to the snow cap.

This is the best thing to happen to my hair in a looooooonnnng time!! I've been using it fir three months and have seen actual REGROWTH. I would pay anything for this line... $108 actually seems like a bargain compared to the Keristas line I was using, which didn't work. I've been recommending it to all my friends.

I've been using the Aveda Invati product line (shampoo, conditioner, revitalizer) for over a month and have experienced a noticeable thinning in my front hairline, which is where I've been applying the revitalizer. I've been followed the instructions by applying it twice a day, massaging into my scalp and letting it dry for at least four hours. I am convinced that it is the cause of my further hairloss since nothing else has changed in my day-to-day (diet, stress, etc.)

I started using the product with the understanding that it was meant for preserving the hair I have and NOT for hair regrowth. What I am wondering is whether or not I am experiencing an initial shedding phase and that the hair I have lost will come back - similar to what people have reported from their positive experiences with other topical treatments, such as Rogaine. I am skeptical since Invati isn't a hair regrowth product to begin with and so there shouldn't even be a reaction of an initial shed.

Has anyone using this product for a while experienced something similar? Your advice would be much appreciated.

Update: I've been using this for almost a year now, and I continue to see results even though I'm only using the spray only about 3x a week.

For those of you who are experiencing hair loss and are not seeing results with any products, please go see a doctor or dermatologist. I know how frustrating it can be to see your hair getting thinner on a daily basis, and if over-the-counter products are not working, you may need something that is prescription strength. I will also tell you that hormonal changes have a huge impact on hair, and only a medical professional can determine if you have a hormonal issue. Good luck!! XO

I Purchased only the treatment spray not the shampoo and conditioner, because I have curly hair and need a thick heavy conditioner. I have no hair loss, just decided to try this as a prevention, I use the spray maybe one time a week and I must say I have lots of new baby hairs and on the days following using the spray there is definitely less hair loss in my brush and during showering. My hair dresser said she would be concerned using this product because maybe it has some hormonal effect. Thats what I was searching when I came across this site. To answer that person who is having hair LOSS in the area where applying the product, that sounds like a reaction and yes you can have reactions to " all natural" ingredients.

I just bought the whole system and have been using it every other day or ever 3rd day. I have long thin hair but after using the system for a couple of weeks now I have long full healthy hair. Ive noticed less hair loss in the shower and in my brushes. I love the smell. The conditioner doesnt make my fine hair as soft as I would like so I follow up with their smooth infusion style prep smoother. I got a sample when I bought the Invati. Its all a little pricey but for long bouncy beautiful hair ( which ive always wanted and now have) its worh every penny!

How long is the 3 piece package supposed to last? it feels like my shampoo and conditioner are pretty fully but my spray feels really light. I'm at about 25 days of use so far. If it only lasts a month constantly repurchasing?

I color my hair every 4 weeks. Does anyone know if this product is safe for color treated hair?

Hey, thanks for the post! Just bought the same system yesterday. Was a huge splurge for me, but I desperately need something to help fix my thinning hair.. Hope it works as well as what it has for you! I did have a couple of questions about it for anyone who might know.. in order for it to be effective, do you need to have hair loss of a certain kind?? I have had a hereditary pigmentation problem since I was about 12, and being young, ignorant and freaked out about the whole thing, I used to pull out these strands of white hair. Over the years, I think this has caused thinning in some places on my head. I guess my question is, would the invati system still work for me I initially lost hair for this reason? Would it help hair to regrow in these areas?

Thanks!

Hmmm I guess the short answer is : I don't know. My hair was falling out for a host of reasons including poor diet and insulin regulation issues, and it certainly helped for that. I don't think it will hurt to try but if you don't see results you might want to see a medical professional.

CLEshopaholic said...

I believe it is, but you should check with your local aveda salon or call customer service.

CLEshopaholic said...

I found that the spray lasted the longest, but I only spray 1x per day otherwise my hair gets too greasy and I have to wash more often.

CLEshopaholic said...

No, I only use it 1x/day.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Much appreciated :)

That's what I figured too -- definitely can't hurt to try. I think my hair loss over the years has also been related to stress so hopefully the invati products will help with that. I have only been using it for a couple of days so still too soon to tell, but it does have a gorgeous scent! Surprisingly, even my partner commented on how nice my hair smelled, and he normally hates anything herbal.

I had a baby in the last year and have huge hair loss. I purchased this product hoping it would help, ha! I am typically a medium brown, blond highlights- my hair is like a calico cat, copper orange tone! Horrible! I have since dyed my hair dark brown and the copper color comes through in about a week. I am so upset and that product is costing me a fortune in hair salon fees. I've been in touch with aveda, don't think they will do anything. To have such hair loss an baby fine hair is bad enough, now it's copper. Hate this product, would never recommend it to anyone. I was told the turmeric in the product turned it orange..... Good luck!

I purchased the 3 part system last December and love it, would swear by it. My husband made a huge fuss the very first time I used it, commenting on my hair, how it looked and the smell. I have only bought it a second time recently meaning it lasts me 3-4 months. I shampoo 2-3 times / week and only put the step 3 spray on at night before bed. It is like all of the Aveda hair products in terms of use. You only need a very small amount so pouring a 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp in the palm of your hand, rubbing your hands together and then starting with the scalp provides enough to get a lather. Also we have very soft water and if I have a lot of styling product or hairspray I will sometimes prewash with the Organix TeaTree Mint just the ends and not at the scalp to get the product off, then shampoo a second time with the Invati shampoo and concentrate on the scalp, moving out to the ends. I also found a wonderful rubber brush in a pet store that is meant to brush your cat with to help with shedding. It is about the shape of your palm has soft rubber tips on one side and the one I bought is shaped like a cat and purple. I massage my scalp gently with this when shampooing and conditioning. I leave the conditioner on my scalp while I do the rest of my shower and then rinse off. I have very very fine and thinning hair (65 yrs old) and it is very much improved in body, color retention and appearance.

I have very natural blonde hair. I used a sample of this shampoo and conditioner yesterday and my hair is now light brown, very similar to the color of the shampoo. I was just doing a Google search to see if anyone else had this issue and found your comment.

My hair was looking pretty dried out due to highlighting. I have used Aveda products for years. I need something different!! I'm glad I took the chance on Shielo products after reading the reviews! I also purchased the Shielo Restoration Oil, and it too, is fantastic. And, the big bonus... it costs less than Aveda & they have certified organic ingredients.
